Book Review | Jungle Paradise

Jungle Paradise | A N King

I was asked to read and review a recently published book called Jungle Paradise* by A N King.
After reading the description of the book, I was more than happy to read the book, it sounds exciting and luxurious. I love finding new books to read, sitting down with a cup of tea and a book is a great way to relax and let your troubles slide away. I had a feeling this book would make you do just this and more.

Plot Summary

Jungle Paradise, the worlds most exclusive tropical resort. Champagne, palm trees and turquoise lagoons. Invite only. Ultimate luxury.

When a female guest is assaulted by a man in a bull mask, newly-made millionaire Alex Newman is sent into Jungle Paradise to find the perpetrator. But snooping around under the watchful eye of billionaire owner Dimitry Dominov won't be easy. And with a love story developing along the way, this case will be one Alex never forgets.

Jungle Paradise

My Review

The cover to the book is the first thing that draws you in, sandy white beach, clear blue sea and palm trees. It looks like somewhere in the Caribbean or Mexico.
The thing you notice whilst reading this book is the detail, you can easy picture every scene and what is happening. This really makes you feel apart of the story. The chapters are nice and short to which is great as I always seem to be able read a lot faster and because they are short you feel you can always read "just one more chapter".
Alex is a self made millionaire and is now working for his brothers PI Company. He is sent into Jungle Paradise to find the man in the bull mask who assaulted a female guest, Emma Buckingham. You follow him through the palm trees, over the lagoons and in the bamboo bar.
Some of the characters you meet along the way tend to stick out. There is Freddie, who comes across as your typical toff and probably someone you would find on Made In Chelsea.
Tom is another character that pops up a couple of times, you definitely get the sense he knows something about what is happening in Jungle Paradise as does the man with the shaved head,  who Alex see's standing in the trees watching him, he also installs a Jungle Paradise app onto Alex's iPad without Alex knowing. The fact that Alex had hid his iPad under his clothes in his bag makes you wonder whether they knew what he was doing from the start.
You get the feeling that Dimitry himself either is the bull or knows something about it, when he comes to talk to Alex he seems to be goading him on at first about the subject, then almost warns him to be careful. Is this something he can't do about the bull or is it him?
Jungle Paradise really is a luxury resort with no expense spared. Every guest has complimentary clothes, bathroom products and food and drink.
This is fast paced, well written and has a great surprise ending. I actually hope to see another Alex Newman book.
You can buy this book in paperback on amazon.

Baking | Halloween Cupcakes

Halloween Cupcakes

Halloween is in a couple of days now and I love baking for Halloween, although it has really been a struggle this year! I went to B&M Bargains, Asda and Sainsbury's and none of them had any Halloween cake decorations....Boooo! So instead I had to use Haribo Horror Mix but I think they still worked out quite well.

I decided to do chocolate orange cupcakes with an orange frosting. These are really simple to make. You can mix these by hand but I have found since using an electric hand mixer they come out so much better. If you don't have one Argos do actually do them for £5.49 which is the one I currently have, I got it as a quick purchase as my other one broke but to be fair this works really well. You can find it here.

Halloween Cupcakes

Ingredients

100g plain self raising flour
20g cocoa powder - I use Bournville
140g castor sugar
1 1/2 tsp baking powder
Pinch of salt
40g unsalted butter - make sure it's at room temperature
120 ml whole milk
1 egg
1/4 tsp orange extract

Method

1. Pre-heat oven to 170 fan/Gas mark 3
2. Place the flour, cocoa powder, sugar, baking powder, salt and butter into a bowl and mix with electric mixer until you get a sandy consistency.
3. Whisk the milk, egg and orange extract together in a jug, then slowly pour about half into the bowl, beat to combine and turn the mixer up high. Scrape any unmixed ingredients from the side of the bowl with a silicone spatula. Continue mixing for a couple of minutes until mixture is smooth. Don't over mix.
4. Spoon the mixture into cupcake cases until two-thirds full and bake in the oven for 20-25 minutes or until the sponge bounces back when touched. Leave the cupcakes to coll slightly in the tray before turning out onto a wire rack to cool completely - this usually takes about half an hour in total.

Orange Buttercream Frosting

3 cups powdered sugar
1/3 cup of butter
1 1/2 teaspoons of orange extract
1 to 2 tablespoons of milk
orange colouring

1. Mix powdered sugar and butter with electric mixer on low speed. Stir in orange extract and 1 tablespoon of milk. Slowly add the colouring till you get the desired colour.
2. Gradually beat in just enough milk to make frosting smooth and spreadable. Use a silicone spatula or a piping bag to add the frosting. Place on your sweets on top of frosting.

Halloween Cupcakes

These are super yummy and will go down a treat!

What do you think to these cupcakes? Are you baking anything yummy for Halloween? Let me know your thoughts in the comments below.

Beauty | Lush - It's Christmaaaas!

Lush | Christmas Haul

I have been counting down to Christmas since the beginning of September so when Lush brought out their Christmas range I was beyond Excited!
I literally want it all, but however due to not having enough penny's to buy the entire selection I couldn't so I picked out a few bits to be going on with.

I have only recently started buying my bath items from lush since starting my blog, before that I only really brought their Lemony Flutter Cuticle Butter, which is amazing! And to be honest I must have been living under a rock or something because how the hell did I miss all this glouriousness?

Snow Fairy Shower Gel

Lush | Snow Fairy

I'm starting with Snow Fairy as I figure everyone knows about this one. I have heard so much about this that it was impossible not to buy it. It sounded just the sort of thing I love.
And it is! To say I love this would be an understatement, it is the best thing I have ever smelt. I love the little flecks of glitter in this to. It is quite a strong smell but personally I think that's great as it will hopefully stay on your skin a bit longer.
I will say though I like to layer my scents and you have snow fairy and candy mountain so it would be nice if they did a body cream as well, I think they should do the same with the comforter, which I also love. It doesn't have to be as strong as this but even a lightly scented cream would be great I think.

The Snowman Shower Gelly

Lush | Snowman Shower Gelly

I really fancied trying this one out, it looked super cute and it will be fantastic to use in the shower.
This has added buchu, bergamot oil and sicilian lemon oils for an uplifting fragrance.
I was slightly worried as when I got it, on the tub it says do you smell carrots?
Now I'm not against carrots but I don't want to be smelling like one, however I can't smell carrots, thank goodness. I can't pin point what I think it smells like, it has this sweet sort of fresh smell if that makes any sense. It is really nice and I can't wait to try this out.

Lush | Snowman Shower Gelly

Candy Mountain

Lush | Candy Mountain

I brought this as I heard it smelled similar to Snow Fairy, and I'm glad I did now as I will certainly be using Snow Fairy when I have this in my bath. It smells gorgeous, not as strong as Snow Fairy but so lovely all the same.
This is packed with fair trade vanilla, which is another reason I brought it, I love anything with vanilla in it, this and cocoa butter and I'm sold. I like to try and get two baths out of my bubble bars but to be honest this isn't overly big so I'm thinking I probably won't manage that but we will see.
The picture on the website makes this look like a perfect triangle, however mine is bent at the top and looks like a wizards hat. It's kind of cute actually.

Golden Wonder

Lush | Golden Wonder

Unfortunately this was hard to get a photo of but it is a beautiful golden shimmer at the bottom with a beautiful white bow on the top.
I got this because of how pretty it looked and it smells beautiful too.
This has zesty lime oil and sweet orange in it and it makes it smell so good. If you buy this though be warned I only picked it up at the corners and my fingers - and my blanket I use to shoot my pictures on where covered in gold glitter. My throw is now in the wash pile.
This is supposed to have hidden contents inside - just like a present. So I am looking forward to seeing what comes out of it.

Star Dust

Lush | Star Dust

I'm hoping you can see this! but it is a beautiful white star with little blue flecks in it.
Again this is supposed to have something inside it, I would have a guess at little mini stars.
This one again has fair trade ugandan vanilla and precious rosewood. It smells beautiful and it will be one I really look forward to trying. This is one of the cheaper bath bombs as well coming in at just £2.95.

Shoot For The Stars

Lush | Shoot For The Stars

To be honest this was one I actually wasn't to bothered about trying till I saw the video Lush had posted on their Instagram page and it looked amazing! So from that alone I wanted to try this out.
Brazilian orange and bergamot oils make this a a nice smell, it is very uplifting. I can't wait to see what colours come out of this one.

Lush | Shoot For The Stars

So there we have my little Christmas Haul. I can't wait to try them all out.

What do you think to the one's I've brought? What's your favorite from the Christmas selection they have out? Let me know your thoughts in the comments below.

MOTD | #BreastCancerAwareness

MOTD | #BreastCancerAwareness

If you haven't already heard, it is Breast Cancer Awareness month.
I was asked by a fellow blogger, Kumba {you can find her blog here}, if I would like to participate in her campaign to raise awareness. Of course it was an honor to be asked and something that should be brought to attention. Kumba spoke of how close this issue is to her heart and cancer in general is something that is close to me too as my uncle is currently going through cancer himself.

I decided to go with a lovely pink lip and keep the rest of my make up quite neutral so the lipstick really popped.

MOTD | #BreastCancerAwareness

For my make up I used:
Avon Solutions BB Cream - I very rarely use foundation now after trying this, covers my skin great with a fresh look.
Seventeen Blush & Glow Blusher - I love this, it suits my pale skin, however I can't seem to get it anymore and I'm running out {sad face!}
Avon Super Extend Extreme Mascara - I love Avon make up it's always such good quality and this makes my lashes really long.
Avon Glimmer-stick Eyebrow pencil - This is retractable which is very handy and fills in my eyebrows in no time at all.
Pop Beauty Eye-shadow Palette - I actually got this in my Birchbox but it's fast become my favorite eye-shadows so will definitely be buying this when it runs out.
Avon Lipstick in Baby Doll - I love this colour, pinks have always been my favorite and this is no exception.

This is a great and easy way of getting involved and everyone can get involved by doing this, the more people that do get involved means even more awareness is spread. If you would like to get involved, you can make a donation, whether it be small or large every penny helps. You can make a donation to Cancer Research.

What do you think to this look? Let me know in the comments below.

Graze Box

Graze Box

I posted last week about the first Graze Box I received {post can be found here} and this week I received another box and I had to share it as it is so good and the box itself is so amazing!
Graze have really embraced the Autumn season with this box design.

Graze Box

Graze Box

I love the leaf design on the front and the pumpkins are great on the inside. Really brings out the Autumn season. As for the snacks inside, well they are just as great:

Dark Rocky Road Granola Topper

Graze Box

If you follow me on Instagram, then you will have seen that I tried this on some ready brek with honey and it was so delicious. It's a shame you can't actually buy this. The tiny bits of fudge melted and made the porridge nice and chocolatey.

Light Lemon & Poppy Slice

Graze Box

This was another one I shared on Instagram and it was absolutely delicious, so tasty I want to try and recreate it. You even get a tea bag with this one so you can sit and relax with a nice cup of tea and a slice of light cake.

Beach Bum

Graze Box

This is full of pineapples, coconut and banana, sounds really tasty!
I am looking forward to trying this one out, I love the banana slices especially in these sort of snacks, and we all know how good coconut is for us.

Bonnie Wee Oatbakes

Graze Box

Yummy cheddar oakbakes with a caramelised onion marmalade, I will really be looking forward to trying this one. I love snacks like this and having a little dip to have with them is even better.

This is a great box this fortnight, what do you think? Let me know in the comments below.

Barry M | Mani Mask

Barry M | Mani Mask

Barry M have brought out a new nail polish, this one is exclusive to Marks & Spence'rs.
I actually had to order mine in off the website as our Marks & Spencer's doesn't actually carry it just yet but that was not a problem.
They have two colours out pink and nude, I decided to go with the pink.

This polish strengthens and conditions your damaged nails whilst giving them a lovely semi matte pink colour finish.

As is the case with all Barry M polishes, this went on really well and the brush is just the right size.
This dried really quick actually and was a lovely matte pink. I actually think this would be great for a lovely french manicure as it's the perfect pink for one.

Barry M Mani Mask

Barry M Mani Mask

I had this on for nearly a week and my nails did actually feel stronger than they were before. I wear more nail polish than I do make-up so I am always using nail polish remover to take off the polish that's chipped. Even buying polish remover that is supposed to care for your nails, it still weakens them so this is a great idea for strengthening nails but also still having a nice bit of colour on them.

You can buy this from the Marks & Spencer's website or in store. They currently have an offer on Barry M products - buy 2 for £6.00.

What do you think to Barry M's new polish? Will you be buying it? Let me know your thoughts in the comments below.

Balance Me | Super Moisturising Hand Cream

Balance Me | Super Moisturising Hand Cream

I use a lot of hand creams all year round, but during the colder months's I have to use even more otherwise I tend to get dry, itchy hands and that's not nice at all.
The thing is that during the colder months I have to use a really good quality hand cream, your usual cheaper hand creams just don't cut it unfortunately. I have been trying out Balance Me's Super Moisturising Hand Cream to see how well it works.

This is full of Benzoin and yarrow which smooths and soothes, shea butter, sweet almond oil, calming patchouli, carrageenan oil and kuku'i nut oil to make even problem skin supple.

This is a nice thick cream that sinks in fairly quick, the scent is slightly clinical but that isn't really to much of a problem due to the scent fading when you have rubbed it in, the only way you will smell it is if you actually smell your hands.

Balance Me | Super Moisturising Hand Cream

You won't need a lot of this to get a good amount rubbed over your hands and it doesn't leave them shiny or greasy either.
I am quite impressed with this cream actually it has kept my dry, itchy hands at bay so far and my hands have been nice and soft.

Balance Me | Super Moisturising Hand Cream

You can buy this hand cream off the Birchbox Website for £14.50, they also do a rose otto scent. I got mine in my June Birchbox a few month's ago but have only really just started using it regularly.

Have you used this hand cream yet? What are your thought's on it? Let me know your thoughts in the comments below.

Jacava London | Vanilla Slice

Jacava London | Vanilla Slice

I have found myself really drawn to neutral shades at the moment and my nails are no exception.
They go really well with the Autumn season and they can really make your nails look nice and gives almost a classy look.
Jacava are one of my favorite brands when it comes to nail polish, they are slightly on the pricer side but I do find they last a while so it does seem worth it.

The other good thing is Jacava polishes are really good for your nails. They just happen to be the first nail polishes in the UK to be 9 free. What is 9 free? Well it means that they are free from the 9 toxins that are known to cause cancer, asthma and even neo-natel death.
This means they are free from Formaldehyde, Formaldehyde resin, Toluene, Paraben, Camphor, Dibutyl Phthalate (DBP), Xylene, Ethyl Tosylamide and Lead. They are also vegan friendly and cruelty free.

Jacava London | Vanilla Slice

This shade is a beautiful cream colour and it really does complement your skin, sometimes white can look a bit shocking on your nails, but I found with this creamy vanilla colour my skin didn't look  washed out or dull.
This went on smoothly with two coats and was really opaque. It lasted a good 4-5 days before chipping. The brush is quite small, which for someone like me who has small nails, this is a good thing. The long handle is good as I had plenty to hold on to whilst painting my nails.
You can buy Vanilla Slice from the Jacava London website.

What do you think of this shade? Do you use Jacava Polishes? Let me know your thoughts in the comments below.

Crabtree And Evelyn Nail Lacquer And Hand Cream

Crabtree & Evelyn

With Autumn/Winter now officially here, out come the darker nail polishes and the hand creams.
I always use hand creams but during this time of the year I have to use a really good, thick hand cream and be vigilante with it otherwise my hands tend to go really dry and itchy - not good!
So when I received these goodies from Crabtree & Evelyn I was very much looking forward to trying them out.

Nantucket Briar Ultra-Moisturising Hand Therapy Cream*

Crabtree & Evelyn

This rich cream is made with Shea Butter, Vitamin E, Lavender Oil and Glycerin which make it perfect for soothing and moisturising.
It has a lovely scent of Briar Roses, Bergamot, Fresh Greens, Vanilla and Amber.

Whilst using this my hands have definitely stayed nice and nourished during the weird weather we seem to have here, one minute it's cold and raining then it's sunny and back again, so this is a major plus for me as it's this kind of weather that really tends to mess my hands up. My partner actually gets the same problem and his have actually started flaring up so that proves that this hand cream has really helped me out.
The scent I really like. It has more of a clean but slightly floral smell to it and the great thing is that the scent actually lasts a while to, I can put some on and an hour later I can still smell it if I bring my hands up close to my face.
For a travel size (25g) it is £5.00 and you can buy it from the Crabtree & Evelyn Website.
They also do a bigger 100g for £15.00, which you can find here.

Crabtree & Evelyn Nail Lacquer In Blueberry*

Crabtree & Evelyn

I love darker nail shades during these Autumn/Winter months and as I am not really a black nail polish wearer, dark blues are perfect.
This polish has been made without camphor, dibutyl phthalathes, formaldehyde and toluene which is a big bonus and it also reinforces and protect's your nails.
It is a lovely deep blue with a lovely slight shimmer running through it. It only took two coats to get a nice opaque look and with a top coat it actually lasted 4-5 days without chipping which is fantastic.
This is £6.00 and again you can buy this from the Crabtree & Evelyn website.

Crabree & Evelyn Blueberry Lacquer

Crabree & Evelyn Blueberry Lacquer

Overall you can feel the quality of the products and the care that goes into them. I have recently found out that they sell Crabtree & Evelyn products in Marks And Spencer's so I will certainly be having a look to see what products they do in there. I never think of going in Marks And Spencer's, I just think of clothes to be honest so I think I maybe shopping in there a little more often now as there are so many hand creams and bath and body items I want to try since looking about the Crabtree & Evelyn website.

Have you tried these products yet, if so what did you think? Or will you be trying them in the future? Let me know your thought's in the comments below.

Graze | Healthy Snacking

Graze Box

I have heard of Graze in the past and have always thought about trying it out and I have finally gotten around to signing up.
It can be hard when you are hungry and want a snack but you don't always have something healthy, so these boxes are a great idea and they are not expensive either.

Once you are signed up you can then go through a whole list of snacks and decide what you like, love or want to bin. The ones you bin they won't ever send you. There is so many snacks with so much choice. There is something for everyone as they do sweet and savory snacks.
My first box came and I was very pleased with what was inside.

Summer Berry Compote

Graze Box

This was from the sweet side of the snack menu and sounds so yummy and it even tasted yummy too. You have three lovely wholemeal shortbread and a tasty summer berry compote dip.

Sesame Garlic Crunch

Graze Box

I love bread sticks and these were so nice. In this pot you have garlic sesame sticks, oat bran sesame sticks and multi-grain soy crackers. There was a good choice in there so you can have something different with every bite.

Salted Fudge & Peanut Cookie

Graze Box

Peanuts, chocolate cookies and fudge - Yum! Add them together and you get a really tasty, light but full of fibre snack. There is salted peanuts, redskin peanuts, vanilla fudge and milk chocolate cookies.

Hot Cross Yum

Graze Box

This was by far my favorite in the box, it was so delicious. This one contains orange raisins, sponge pieces and cinnamon honey almonds. I love hot cross buns and this tasted just like them.

I can not wait for my next box, I get mine fortnightly and they only cost £3.99 which personally I think is fantastic. That's pretty much £1.00 a snack. If you are a new customer and would like to try them click on my offer in my sidebar to get two boxes free.

Have you ever tried the Graze box before? What is your favorite snack that they do? Let me know in the comments below.
