Book Review: Juggler, Porn Star, Monkey Wrench

Juggler, Porn Star, Monkey Wrench

This months book  read was Rich Leder's novel Juggler, Porn Star, Monkey Wrench*.
This was an e-book I was sent by Laugh Riot Press to read and review.

It's been a long time since I read something like this, I am more of a straight up romance type of girl so I was looking forward to reading something with rather intelligent humor.

The story is about Mark Manilow, a writer in Hollywood competing to get his script snatched up. His script Full Force gets made into a motion picture and is starring Bruce Willis and Arnold Schwarzenegger, his life couldn't be better. He is married to the love of his life and best friend. However the film is locked away and never to be seen again for public viewing, things start to go down hill fast for Mark. His wife then also decides to leave him for her life ambition to become....a juggler!

What happens next is a journey that can only be described as unbelievable happenings. Whilst on his way to visit his parents he meets a porn maker named Ken who tells him they should write a porn film called Broken Boner. Whilst on set he meets international porn star Dallas Westcott who manages to lure him into a relationship, moves in then refuses to leave. All whilst being told by Ken he is to smart for writing porn. He ends up going to see an old chinese guy to see if he can help him with his brain, as he keeps getting headaches. He learns to look at the phone book in a new light when a new friend Joe decides to get Phone Book: The Movie wrote and made. His family and father-in-law decide to stage an intervention after finding Broken Boner. He meets a beautiful girl called Caroline who happens to be the chinese doctors niece, has he found the girl for him and what will he do about his wife and the porn star?
There is lots of lessons to be learnt along the way and come the end you will get a better understanding of the title of this book.

This book is full of dry and sometimes dark humor, it kept me entertained from start to finish. I enjoyed reading about the relationships with all three women in this book and also the relationship he has with his family. Phone Book: The Movie turned out to be a real laugh, add in Colonel Bill Curry's stage reading of the movie and you have yourself humorous, fun read that has a different take on romance.

Avon Ultra Colour Lipstick

This is my go to colour when I am going out for the night! It is a beautiful wine colour but not to dark that it makes you looked washed out, I have quite pale skin so I have to be careful what colours i wear but this looks lovely on pale skin.
This is Avon's Ultra Colour Lipstick in Wine With Everything. This lipstick makes your lips soft and moisturised and has a stay true colour. Pigments are re-activated when your lips are pursed together for a long lasting colour that keeps on going.

I did find with this lipstick I didn't actually need a lip liner as it didn't bleed which I was rather pleased about. The packaging is lovely, it looks very sophisticated and classy. I do have mostly pink lipsticks so I do like to wear thins on a night out for a change.

You can find this lipstick on Avon's website: www.avonshop.co.uk for £7.50, they do this lipstick in 9 different shades to suit everyone.

Neutrogena Visibly Clear Pink Grapefruit Face Wash

Neutrogena Visibly Clear

I have a hard time with my skin, foam cleansers dry out my skin and cream cleansers tend to make my skin all shiny so I was very happy when I found a face wash that didn't dry my skin out, make it shiny and also helped with the odd breakout.

It happens to be Neutrogena's visibly clear pink grapefruit face wash, the reason I think this works so well is because it happens to be a citrus based cleanser. I spoke about these before in my post about getting glowing skin, which you can find here.

This cleanser soaps up well and smells lovely, it has a fresh grapefruit smell which also helps wake you up in the morning. My skin is no longer dry and tight after using it and it has really helped to clear up my skin, even during that horrible period once a month.
It comes in a bottle with a pump which is excellent as then there are no germs getting in the bottle from your hands touching it etc. Due to the pump it disperses just the right amount you need and it lasts for ages! Mine has easily lasted about a month and a half and that's with my partner recently starting to use it as well for his problem skin twice a day.

We all have some sort of beauty regime in the morning and this is very quick and simple to use, great for mummy's on the go like me. I rarely have 5 minutes to myself in the bathroom so a quick face wash like this, toner and moisturiser and I'm good to go. This is usually whilst my youngest who is 7 is brushing his teeth next to me.

I really have noticed a difference in my skin whilst using this face wash, my skin looks brighter and healthier whilst breakouts are far between now and seem to go rather quick when I do have them. It is a great price to at just £4.94. Less than £5.00 and lasts a long time, great! You can buy it from Superdrug here

Will you or have you tried this face wash, what did you think?

My Book Wishlist

I love reading! It is so nice to just sit with a cup of tea and a good book and relax. If I'm feeling stressed or anxious this is exactly what I do. There are so many good books I have read and so many I still have yet to read, including some of the classics.

My favorite book of all time though has to be Alice In Wonderland, if you haven't realized yet I am obsessed with Alice In Wonderland, it is my favorite Disney film and book.
I have read books that have made me cry, The Fault In Our Stars and The Last Kiss Goodbye to books that have kept me guessing who did it, The Bone Garden. And also books that have been turned into films and tv series - The Hunger Games and The Sookie Stackhouse Series.
I have loved them all and it is very easy to get lost in a book and forget all your worries.

Here is a list of books that I want to read that are definitely on my wishlist:

Above Suspicion - Lynda La Plante  £5.99 (Kindle Edition)
One Fifth Avenue - Candace Bushnell £4.39 (Kindle Edition)
The Carrie Diaries - Candace Bushnell £2.99 (Kindle Edition)
Think Of The Children - Kerry Wilkinson £3.79 (Kindle Edition)
From Notting Hill To New York...Actually - Ali McNamara £1.89 (Kindle Edition)
Far From The Madding Crowd - Thomas Hardy £0.00 (Kindle Edition)
Mr Mercedes - Stephen King £3.66 (Kindle Edition)

This is just a small list of the books I want to read, if I listed them all you would be reading this post all day long. Amazon actually do free kindle books which is great as I have found some great books through that and have even found an amazing series sometimes from it also.

My boyfriend brought me a kindle as a Christmas present back in 2013 and I am so glad he did, though he only brought me one due to him being sick of there being books everywhere, but I love it, you can take it anywhere and you can hold so many books on it as well, so if you are out and about or reading during your lunch break it is brilliant if you finish a book and want to start another.

If you like reading as much as me why not add me as a friend on Goodreads, where I share what books I am currently reading.

Have you read any of these books? What is your favorite all time book?

Avon Ultra Colour Lip Crayon

Ultra colour lip crayon
I have always been a big fan of Avon make-up, in fact most of my make-up bag consists of Avon products. They are great quality and at a great price to. So as my pink lipstick was getting rather low and I needed another one, I was flicking through the book and saw this lip crayon in risque rose

This is a jumbo lip crayon that gives you a creamy, glossy colour that stays put pretty much all day. It contains vitamin E and shea butter so keeps your lips lovely and smooth whilst your wearing it. It goes on very well and leaves you with a beautiful colour, you won't necessarily need lip liner with this either as I found it didn't bleed. I like the design of this pencil as well it looks quite sophisticated.

My lipsticks are mostly pink due to my pale complexion so when I saw this I had to buy it. It is a reasonable budget price to which is always great.

Avon have lots of other beautiful colours that I want to try as well that I'm sure I will be adding to my collection soon.

Have you tried Avon make-up before? Do you like a classic pink lip like me? The Ultra Colour Lip Crayon is just £8.50, available at www.avonshop.co.uk

Victoria's Secret Pure Seduction

Pure seduction

I went on holiday last year to Florida and came across a massive Victoria's Secret store. I was in heaven not because of all the beautiful lingerie...which was beautiful but because of all the amazing, gorgeous fragrance sprays they had. There was so many, I had a difficult time picking which ones to get. I finally settled on Strawberries and Champagne, Sheer Love and this one Pure Seduction.

I love them all but this one is by far my favorite, I love the smell of this so much I have searched the internet for a place to get it over here...and I have, Amazon of all places. You can find the link to this here or down the side of my blog. It is just £7.70, which is a great price as you get quite a big bottle and it lasts ages.

Pure Seduction is a beautiful flirty, floral fragrance of red plum and sweet freesia. It is also infused with conditioning Aloe Vera and soothing Chamomile.

victoria's secret

I really am in love with this scent and it is perfect for spring/summer to. This has taken place as one of my favorite scents. It leaves you feeling very girly indeed.
It really is my must have for this summer. You can get a bottle from Amazon for £7.70 for a big 250 ml bottle.

May Birchbox

may birchbox

I have finally decided to start having the monthly Birchbox and I must admit I'm so glad I did. I was very exciting if nothing else to get to colour in the box (I'm a big kid at heart).

It was extremely easy to set up, all I had to do was pick which WAH product I wanted and fill in a quick questionnaire about what my skin type, hair type etc was and away we go, and as an added bonus I got £5.00 off my first order thanks to The Tattooed Tealady

The box was nice thick cardboard and inside was a beautiful beige and orange cotton drawstring bag.
Inside was 6 amazing products, there wasn't one product I wasn't happy with.

1. Nude ProGenius Omega Treatment Oil | £58

I was very exciting to receive this product as I have heard a lot about this and have heard it is extremely good. You apply 2-3 drops after cleansing morning and night. It is packed with omegas 3,6,7,and 9 which is supposed to leave the skin healthy and happy.

2. Stila Lip Glaze | £15

Again I was excited to try this as again it's a product I have heard about, I have never tried it as a lot of my make up bag consists of avon products, but this seems to be quite the cult classic from what I've read about, It is packed with vitamins A, C and E so will keep lips hydrated.

3. Liz Earle Cleanse & Polish Hot Cloth Cleanser + Muslin Cloth | £15.50

Another award winning product that I was very happy with, I do love a good cleanser and this is up there as one of the best. This two-step cleansing system leaves skin nourished, glowing and super soft. That is all I am after soft and glowing skin! I can't wait to try this one.

4. WAH London Nail Art Pen | From £7.00

This was the product that I picked out. It was a blue nail art pen. This comes with a brush and a nib so you can paint on a design but also draw fine lines etc with the nib.

5. Parlor Moisturising Sea Salt Spray | £17.00

I have recently had my hair cut short and have been thinking about getting a texturising sea salt spray so I was very happy to get this as I can now see if it is something worth getting. This is also supposed to leave your scalp nourished as well.

6. Jelly Pong Pong Caribbean Sun Bronzer Duo | £15.95

With spring/summer coming up this is going to be a great product to have. This is infused with argan and mango butter so it is very moisturising. You can fake the perfect holiday glow with this.

7. Number 4 Lumiere d'Hiver Reconstructing Masque | £36.00

Who doesn't love a great hair masque. This one is extremely moisturising as it includes soy proteins, shea butter, sunflower seeds and jojoba seed oils.

8. Colouring Pencils

This is great as you can colour in your Birchbox however you want. You can submit your designs onto the website for a chance to win a £500 worth of products gift.

My favorite product is the Nude ProGenius Omega Treatment Oil, I can not wait to start using this one.
Have you got your Birchbox yet? What is your favorite product?

Get Glowing Skin!

Get glowing skin

Winter has officially left us and spring is in the air.
My skin has been lacking in that glow over winter, slowing fading away from doing the school runs, walking to town to do the shopping and taking walks just to get out the house.
Off come the scarves and jumpers that were trapping my skin and leaving it dull.
As we notice the fluctuations in the temperature between seasons so does our skin. It can leave skin feeling dry, dehydrated and flaky. This leads to dry skin cells blocking our pores causing horrible breakouts.

To avoid this all we have to do is keep our skin clean, however be careful not to over wash and strip away the natural oils we need. If your skin feels tight or starts to sting you know you have gone to far! Apparently over washing can actually increase the oil production as it goes into overdrive to compensate and rehydrate our thirsty skin.

The one thing I have found out from experience (winter especially) is to swap from the foam cleanser, which I used to use, to a citrus based cleanser. From lots of research I found that citrus based cleansers helps to control the oiliness and helps trap moisture.

The next step is to exfoliate, you need to be doing this all year round, it really does have a skin glowing effect. A really good scrub can help to speed up cell turnover, soften fine lines, removes the dead skin that contributed to skin dullness and it improves radiance. You do need to find an exfoliator to suit your skin type.

A trip to the beauty salon for a facial will leave us all relaxed but why not do a DIY home facial? This can drastically improve your skin, facials can relax the muscles, relive tension and it helps circulation of blood to your face. I suggest using a facial oil and gently press your thumbs along your cheekbones from nose to ear, to massage your jawline simply place finger tips on your chin and firmly drag your fingers and palm along your jawline to your ears.
To reduce puffy eyes, place a spoon in the fridge before use and roll the back of it over your eye sockets from the centre to the temples. The coolness from the spoon being in the fridge can help boost circulation and make eyes appear less tired.

Finish with a good day and night cream. I also use a face mask once a week, mine is a good clay mask that helps to draw out toxins and impurities.

Interview With Rich Leder

Rich Leder

When I was asked to read and review Juggler, Porn Star, Monkey Wrench I was also asked if I would like to interview the writer Rich Leder. Of course I said yes to this as I thought it would be great to get to know Rich a little better.
Here is my interview with Rich, I hope you enjoy reading it!

What made you become a writer?

I don’t think I became a writer.  I think I've always been one.  When I was a little kid, my army men had back stories, nicknames, and families at home that they wrote letters to.  My army men were letter writers.  When I was nine years old, I wrote a variety comedy show—a Laugh-In clone—that my friends and I performed in my garage for the neighborhood kids and parents.  When I was 13, I wrote a stage play.
Flash forward west...I was a working professional screenwriter in Los Angeles for 15 years.  I wrote television movies and feature films—18 of my scripts have been produced and aired around the world.  When I tell you Hollywood was a crazy ride, I’m not kidding.
For the last six or seven years, I've been a novelist.  I write funny books with smart/crazy/crafted stories and eccentric, hilarious characters.  I’m a fast, fun, and easy read.  So I’m writing for readers who want to jump off the speeding train of their lives for a few minutes and get lost in a world of lunatics maneuvering through stories that charge causally forward and make them laugh out loud.
My life is so full and insane sometimes that all I want to do is sit on my screened porch and disappear in a book that transports me—heart and soul and sense of humor—to somewhere, anywhere else.  Just give me a few minutes.  That’s all I ask.
I’m not special, so I think lots of readers feel the same way.  And so maybe that’s what made me become a writer.  Although my mother says I was born this way.  My wife just rolled her eyes at that last sentence.

What do you love most about writing?

Crafting sentences is the thing I have loved about writing for the last 30 years.  To this day, I still love to string words in a row, read them out loud (so I hear them) and say to myself, “Man, that’s a good sentence.”

What do you feel is the toughest thing about writing?

Finding enough time to do it.  Like most self-pubbing writers, I live a full life.  I have outside business interests, I have children, and I have cars and a house and bills.  I volunteer, and I coach, and I’m busy with people I like to see and things I like to do.  And I’m a writer.  I’ve somehow made time to write more than 40 movies and four novels, but finding enough time to write continues to be a challenge.

What would you be doing if you weren't a writer?

I would be a basketball coach.  Or a sleep-away camp owner.  Or a basketball coach who owns a sleep-away camp.

Other than writing what are your hobbies?

I don’t have a lot of time for hobbies.  I write and exercise every day—I’m an avid swimmer and power walker (hey, I think I’m walking powerfully).  I like to eat good food and drink fine Kentucky bourbon, and I tend to my other businesses, and I spend time with my wife and children.  Maybe all of those are my hobbies.

What is your favourite book to read?

No way to pick just one.  Here are some off the top of my head: The Sportswriter (Richard Ford), A Widow for One Year (John Irving), Trust Me On This (and lots of other novels by Donald E. Westlake), plenty of novels by Carl Hiaasen, everything by John D. MacDonald and Philip Roth and...oh, brother, I could keep going.

What is the best advice you have been given?

The longer and harder you work, the luckier you get.

Do you have any advice for up and coming writers?

Don’t write fiction because you want to make money from writing fiction.  Write fiction because there’s a story in your heart that you have to tell.  If you’re writing fiction to make money, you’re writing for the wrong reason.  Write because you love your writing life.

What was your inspiration for Juggler, Porn Star, Monkey Wrench?

My life in LA.  Juggler, Porn Star, Monkey Wrench is more or less the story of my improbable life in LA.  Some of it is exactly true, some of it is inexactly true, but all of it is true enough.

It’s the story of a screenwriter at the end of his personal and professional ropes who takes a last-gasp job writing a ridiculous porn flick while coming to terms with the women in his life—his estranged wife, who left him to be a juggler, a manipulative porn star, and the beguiling granddaughter of the ancient Chinese healer he’s hired to cure his headaches.  As he attempts to navigate this rocky road, he’s hired to adapt the phone book into a movie.

Yep, it’s a romantic Hollywood sex comedy.

Hairspray Wars: L'Oreal VS VO5

L'Oreal Vs VO5

Finding a good hairspray is essential to me, I have horrible fine hair that is a struggle to do anything with! It can look so nice but as soon as I step outside even the tiniest bit of wind and I literally look like I've been dragged through a bush.
I used to have quite long hair but a few months ago I decided to go for the chop and have it cut into a lovely bob, believe it or not it is actually harder to look after when it is short. No longer can I just leave it to dry naturally now, I have to sit there blow drying it and even then I still have to run the straighteners through it. But none of this is worth it to me if I haven't got a hairspray that will help.

I have been using VO5 Ultimate hold for quite some time now and I must say it is a very good hairspray, it always seemed to do the job! I was running rather low and needed to pick up some more when I was told by a friend to try L'Oreal Elnett as they swear by it.
So I went into Boots and picked up a can to try. The first thing I noticed was the smell - it actually smells quite nice, the VO5 hairspray smells like hairspray (strange thing to say I know!) but the L'Oreal one didn't it had a nice light fragrence to it. The other thing I noticed was how much lighter it felt on my hair, that is one thing about the VO5 spray, it does feel fairly heavy. My hair also loked shiner with the L'oreal spray.
But the big question did it hold my hair style?.....Yes it did!

I do like both the hairsprays but I think from now on I will be sticking with the L'oreal Elnett spray I like the fact it's lighter and makes my hair shiny and the added fragrant smell is always a bonus!
You can get both hairsprays from Boots. The VO5 hairspray comes in at £3.29 but is currently on offer for £2.47. L'oreal Elnett comes in at £6.60 currently on offer 2 for £9.00.
There is a bit of a price difference but it is worth it. Though I have noticed recently that budget buys have been going up in price a bit so if you are paying a bit extra anyway maybe go for the more 'luxury' item.

Have you tried either of these? Which do you use?
